Favorite part of your job?
I love the challenge of creating high-end craft cocktails with speed and accuracy that are a necessity to make this busy bar run. All while maintaining the reputation of a great cocktail bar in Kansas City. I love being involved in making our cocktail menu which changes 3 times a year. During my time here, I have created over 15 cocktails that made the menu. Also, I get A TON of free bar swag, so that’s nice too.
What would surprise people the most about you?
I went to school for Eastern Slavic Languages & Literature. HAH, look at me now!
Where are you originally from?
Kansas City born and raised.
Favorite Kansas City activity to do?
Royals games for sure. But bartending & attending the Templeton Rye event at American Royal Barbecue each year is always a night to remember.
Favorite place to eat in the city?
For lunch, Grinders is always a great spot.
For dinner, Rye KC has to be one of my favorites, great cocktails, and an amazing steak program.
After dinner, I’ll be at the Pendergast Club smoking a cigar with some nice bourbon.
What do you do on your days off?
Now that the weather is back, I am on the golf course a lot. I play poker every Thursday night with a bunch of bartenders around the city and drink a lot of whiskey (until the sun comes up), and I have taken all their money, of course.
Who do you most admire in life?
Scott Tipton (Bread & Butter Concepts, Beverage Director). And my dad, Geoff, is a close second.
What’s the best memory with co-workers from Bread & Butter Concepts?
At Gram & Dun, we do a Fantasy Football league with 10 people. And, two years ago we held our draft at Arrowhead Stadium in a private suite, stocked with beer and food. After the draft, we walked across the street to Kauffman Stadium to go to the Royals game. That was a pretty good day.
