Chef Talk | Thanksgiving Traditions

In the spirit of Thanksgiving this week, we caught up with the chefs of Bread & Butter Concepts to see the traditions that surround their own celebrations of giving thanks.

Brendan Talbert (A.K.A. Sarge) Sous Chef, Urban Table

What's your favorite Thanksgiving tradition in your family?A few hours after everything is cleaned up, family will converge around the turkey carcass (kind of like you will see in a zombie show) and pick at the meat that is still attached. These are often the tastiest parts because they are attached to the bones.

You're invited to a Thanksgiving potluck: what would you bring?I would probably bring a corn casserole or cornbread-bread pudding. They can be both sweet and savory. What or where will we find you eating the day after Thanksgiving?Leftovers. Usually a sandwich of cold turkey, cold stuffing, mayonnaise and mustard.

What's your favorite Thanksgiving tradition in your family? Going to Grandma's house and eating all the desserts (icebox pie, blueberry cobbler, no bake cookies) and playing football with the cousins.

You're invited to a Thanksgiving potluck: what would you bring? I usually do brussels sprouts with bacon. No one ever cooks them or cooks them correctly so i like to teach my family/friends that brussels sprouts are delicious. What or where will we find you eating the day after Thanksgiving? Thanksgiving and Black Friday are both very busy work days for me, so as long as someone else is cooking for me I am happy, or fast-food.

What's your favorite Thanksgiving tradition in your family?  Spend the day with family and friends, and eating way too much.  A little beer and football are nice too.

You're invited to a Thanksgiving potluck: what would you bring?

I have started a tradition of cooking prime rib instead of turkey, so definitely some juicy prime rib.

What or where will we find you eating the day after Thanksgiving?

I will be working the day after, so you'll see me eating delicious food from Urban Table- hopefully something light!

Eating, playing board games, and watching football.

You're invited to a Thanksgiving potluck: what would you bring?

Cornbread Sausage Stuffing finished with turkey gravy.

What or where will we find you eating the day after Thanksgiving?

You will find me my sister's house since it's her turn to host Thanksgiving this year. And I'll probably be eating  a Kentucky Hot Brown sandwich with a fried egg.

What's your favorite Thanksgiving tradition in your family?

We do not have any one thing that we traditionally do as a family. Just being with my family is what matters.

You're invited to a Thanksgiving potluck: what would you bring?

I'm pretty reliable to turn a day dedicated to turkey into a day of pork worship. Or bring root vegetables. Nothing says fall/winter like roasted root vegetables.

What or where will we find you eating the day after Thanksgiving?

While I usually would be eating pizza on the couch with my neighbors and wife,  this year you will find me working and eating at República after Thanksgiving.

You're invited to a Thanksgiving potluck: what would you bring?

Savory Mushroom Bread Pudding, or use my grandmother's recipe for Yorkshire Pudding.

What or where will we find you eating the day after Thanksgiving?

The most epic leftover thanksgiving sandwich ever created.
